Certification from Foundation for Environmental Education is testament to ongoing success of five-star resort’s sustainability efforts
November XX, 2016 (Punta Cana, Dominican Republic) – Eden Roc at Cap Cana has been awarded a Blue Flag certification from the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) for its ongoing efforts and success at protecting its private beach along the coast of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The resort’s private beach is the only Blue Flag certified beach in the Cap Cana/Punta Cana area, and one of just seven Blue Flag beaches in the La Altagracia province on the country’s eastern-most tip.
Started in France in 1985, the Foundation for Environmental Education is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that rewards educational efforts to encourage positive change for the environment on a global scale. Promoting sustainable development in freshwater and marine areas through comprehensive criteria, the Blue Flag certification has become a widely respected and recognized eco-label working to bring together tourism and environment sectors at local, regional and national levels. With certification, Eden Roc Beach Club joins 4,271 Blue Flag beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators in 49 countries around the world.
Central to the Blue Flag program is the aim of connecting people with their surroundings and encouraging them to learn more about their environment. Eden Roc at Cap Cana adheres to the strict standards set by the international Green Key and Green Globe sustainable tourism operations, including the environmental management of water recycling, energy efficiency, the use of non-hazardous chemicals and appropriate waste collection.
